It's also a main hub for transport to the South Island.

Fun things to do in Wellington: The Wellington Lord of the Rings Tour is without doubt my favorite Wellington experience and the fun Zealandia night tour will allow you to explore the rocky South Coast and its many seals, or meet a Tuatara or Kiwi bird. You'll kick yourself if you miss the Wellington Twilight stroll, a truly unique adventure around Wellington, and try your hand at mountain biking and hiking on the Wellington Mountain Bike and Hike which offers no interruptions and pure downhill exhilaration! And it's no secret that the best way to see Wellington and the Cook Strait is by Helicopter.

Other Top attractions and places to visit in Wellington: For a fun interactive experience visit Te Papa, New Zealand's most loved national museum! You'll enjoy the stories and legends about the country's environment, the Maori culture and treasures, its art, and fascinating history. Take a stroll through Cuba Street for a surprising international selection of great coffees and lively cafes. Take a hike to the top of Mount Victoria or ride the historic Wellington Cable Car and reward yourself with stunning views over Wellington city. If you are looking for ideas on where to stay in Wellington then the friendly Quest On Lambton offer very large serviced apartments in the heart of Wellington on Lambton Quay. Within a 10 minute walk you can get to the Interislander ferry terminal, Wellington Station, Te Papa Tongarewa (Museum of Wellington), Westpac National Stadium and even the Wellington Cable Car and Cuba Street district (great cafes, coffee & nightlife) are not that far off. It's also near to public transport where you can catch a bus to Zealandia (Karori Sanctuary).
Tip: The higher the better.

Another Wellington hotel I can recommend is the friendly and helpful Museum Hotel. Nearby Top Wellington attractions include Te Papa museum (right opposite), Oriental Parade, Courtenay Place (nightlife), Oriental Parade beach, the waterfront, Waitangi Park and plenty of night life and restaurants. If you arrive from Wellington airport just hop on the orange airport bus (AirportFlyer) which travels right to the hotel, and is a LOT cheaper than the taxis.
Tips: 1) The Higher the better 2) Harbor view rooms have a large balcony 3) Request a room away from the laundry and in the residence wing room 4) Book early!

Te Papa, Cuba Street and The Beehive are less than 10 minutes away. The rooms are clean and away from the night life noise. The hotel is easy to find from the highway, and if you're coming from the airport then the AirportFlyer is quicker than the shuttle buses or taxis, much cheaper, and they stop right outside the terminal at Lambton Quay and in front of CityLife!
